B&Q Job Done!

Job Done! has been a roaring success since its launch in schools two years ago and we're expanding the programme for 2011!

When we started back in 2009, our focus was on giving 11 to 14 year olds the skills and confidence to undertake a range of diy projects. Now we're launching brand new, free learning resources for all age groups from five to 16 years.

Designed by teachers and D&T experts, they'll help you deliver on the national curriculum and enthuse your pupils to get the Job Done!

Hp-growit

A huge well done to Amy who has won the first prize in our GROW IT! competition. We asked your pupils to draw and colour an 'edible' or 'wildlife' container garden. Out of all the schools that entered this competition we felt that Amy's entry really captured the essence of our brief and was beautifully illustrated.

As a result of Amy's brilliant entry, Amy has been awarded a £50 B&Q gift card and a tool kit to help further her skills and interest in DIY! Amy's school, Bourne Primary School, has also received a tool kit and a £250 B&Q gift card to acquire any materials needed for the school.

Rethink It! Hp-rethinkit

A huge well done to Vanessa from Fairfield High School in Bristol who won our RE-THINK IT! competition.

World-record-breaking round-the-world yachtswoman Dame Ellen MacArthur visited the school in June to present Vanessa with a bundle of prizes at a special assembly.

"It's important that young people are inspired to re-think the way we manage our resources. We know we can redesign systems to work long term and it's been hugely exciting to work with B&Q in challenging young people to do just that!" Dame Ellen MacArthur

In-store practical session at selected B&Q stores

The response to our in-store learning sessions has been overwhelming. In 2010 and 2011 we have had over 200 secondary schools visit their local B&Q to kick off the Decorate It! unit.

Store visits have closed for 2011, but keep an eye out of 2012 updates.

"It was a really good feeling to see the kids get stuck in. I thought the group would be a little apprehensive at first but they did not hesitate to give it a go. A truly great experience all round."

Alan Jobson, Teacher, Fulford School, York

"The visit went extremely well and I was very pleased with the input from the store. We took some pupils who can be difficult to work with at times and I was very pleased with how well the staff coped with our group and how flexible they were. I will be returning with more pupils soon."

Ross Williams, Eastwood High School
